Goodreads Synopsis:
In this stirring, much-anticipated picture book by inaugural Youth Poet Laureate and activist Amanda Gorman, anything is possible when our voices join together. As a young girl leads a cast of characters on a musical journey, they learn that they have the power to make changes—big or small—in the world, in their communities, and most importantly, in themselves.
Like many folks, I was blown away when I watched Amanda perform her poem The Hill We Climb at the inauguration of U.S. President Joe Biden. So, to say I have been looking forward to this book is a bit of an understatement. I’m happy to say that I wasn’t disappointed.
Once again, I found myself wowed by Amanda’s prose. She is a marvel and a force with a pen. I really can’t say enough good things about this book. It is at once uplifting and moving, but also challenges the reader to take action themselves to make their community better.
Although Amanda’s words are works of art on their own, Loren’s illustrations definitely take this book to next-level awesome. They are that show-stoppingly gorgeous. It’s little wonder he’s a New York Times bestselling illustrator, an author on his own and was selected to illustrate Barack Obama’s book Of Thee I Sing. He is incredibly talented. I found myself grateful he was paired with Amanda for this story.
If you have a budding changemaker in your life, this book is a great choice.
