Review By Veronica
Get ready to get into the festive spirit with this fabulous kid’s book.
Goodreads Synopsis:
Everyone knows that elves have a reputation of being the hardest workers around—especially when it comes to the holiday season—but as far as Gilbert the Goblin is concerned that’s nothing but ho-ho-hogwash. A goblin’s to-do list is just as long as any elf’s; they just don’t feel the need to sing songs about it.
To prove he can outperform any reindeer-watching, wrapper-paper-wielding, toy-tinkering elf, Gilbert puts on his merriest disguise to infiltrate Santa’s workshop. But can one lone goblin do the work of a whole team of elves?
Good Lord, this book is fun and adorable. First off, the illustrations are bright and eye-catching. I love all the detail and thought Alex put into his illustrations. These little easter eggs are scattered throughout the book, which creates a great opportunity to talk about the pictures either individually or in a small group. There are cameos from characters from past books, little humorous quips (for both kids and adults), and so many other details that just draw you in.
The writing itself is fun and witty while being simple enough to ensure early readers can understand and enjoy the story. What I love about the writing is that it presents a great opportunity for those adults reading the book to add a lot of fun and big emotions into their speech. I always loved reading this kind of book in classrooms because I knew I could get the kiddos to laugh at what was happening in the book.
Elves Are The Worst! is a great book to read together during the holiday season.
